Spring Cleaning – Our 4 Favorite Cleansers For Removing Sweat And Oil

by Madison Ruggieri on March 24, 2014.

It’s officially spring, and what better time to talk about cleansing and giving your skin a fresh start? Especially since as we head into warmer weather, sweat, oil and shine become even more of a concern. So which products to reach for when you start to feel grimy? Here are four of our favorite cleansers for purifying pores.

Port Products Detoxifying Daily Cleanser ($28)

Start the day with a clean slate with this gentle, gel cleanser that’s great for all skin types. It deep cleans pores, removing dirt and excess oil, but won’t leave skin feeling tight or dry. Yucca root extract is a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory cleansing ingredient, and oat kernel extract soothes and calms the skin. We like that there’s some glycolic acid in there as well to gently exfoliate away dead skin that would otherwise clog pores and leave skin looking dull. It’s fragrance free, but essential oils of peppermint, tea tree and spearmint leave skin refreshed and tingly cool.

(Malin + Goetz) Detox Face Mask ($40)

Don’t let city grime dull your mug. To brighten your complexion and your outlook, use this five minute foaming, gel mask to power clean your pores once a week. Oxygenating cleansing agents lift dirt and oil away from the skin while locking in hydration. This mask is less drying, and more suitable for sensitive skin, than most purifying clay masks. Complex amino acids and natural almond extract gently purify, while soy protein, vitamins C and E help firm skin to fight signs of aging and brighten the skin tone.

Ursa Major Essential Face Wipes ($24)

When you need to freshen up in a jiffy, these convenient, individually wrapped toner wipes definitely do the trick. Throw a couple wipes in your gym bag, backpack or briefcase to have on hand when you need a midday clean up. Soaked with all natural ingredients like aloe, witch hazel, willow bark and rosemary, these little towelettes cleanse, tone, exfoliate and refresh skin when your usual grooming arsenal is miles away.

Recipe For Men Ultra Clean Shower Gel ($19)

Don’t let your face steal all the cleansing glory. Your other parts get just as sweaty and grimy and need their own purifying product. We like this energizing grapefruit and guarana shower gel from Recipe For Men for coming clean in the morning, a midday rinse off or any other time you just need to wash it all away. Aloe vera soothes skin leaving it soft and hydrated. Not only does grapefruit smell refreshing, but it’s loaded with vitamins A and C to fight free radicals and keep skin looking healthy. Guarana is an herbal stimulant with detoxifying and antibacterial properties. With 2.5x the strength of regular caffeine, it’s like a shot of espresso in the shower.
