3 Tips to Get Thicker, Fuller Hair

by Matthew Taylor Ruggieri on March 13, 2014.

So not everyone is naturally blessed from the start with a luscious head of hair, and as you age, hair tends to get thinner and grow much slower than in your youth. However there’s no need for hair despair! Luckily you can get thicker, fuller looking strands by learning proper hair care and a few simple styling tricks. With the right shampoo, conditioner and styling essentials in your arsenal, you can get the head of hair you’ve always wished you had.

The first step to great hair is taking care of it. It starts with a healthy scalp and happy hair strands.

Ingredients like thyme and tea tree help control scalp oil production and rosemary and ginseng stimulate blood circulation which encourages faster hair growth. We recommend Apivita Shampoo for Thinning Hair to strengthen the hair’s texture and protect it from damage. Take your time and gently massage the shampoo into your scalp. Massaging your head gets oxygen flowing to those follicles which makes hair grow stronger and much quicker.

Always follow shampooing with a strengthening conditioner.

We recommend one like Billy Jealousy Cashmere Coat because it contains peppermint oil which helps prevent hair loss and promotes hair growth. Conditioner also restores shine, hydration and volume to hair so you can start styling with a healthy looking foundation. When showering, always use lukewarm water on your hair and scalp. Anything hotter upsets your hair’s pH balance and can cause damage and breakage that you definitely want to avoid.

Power prep your style: A blowdryer is your hair’s new best friend.

After cleansing, use a blow dryer on low heat to dry damp hair. Use your fingers or a brush to lift hair away from the scalp as you dry, pointing the nozzle of the blow dryer in the same lifted direction. This guides your hair up and away from your scalp for a fuller, thicker appearance. We also recommend using a volumizing prep powder like Lock Stock & Barrel Volumatte which starts as a powder, liquifies in your hand and invisibly coats the hair strands to make them thicker. Using Volumatte before your favorite styling product adds strength and extreme volume to hair with a natural finish.

Don’t weight it down with heavy, goopy products.

To style, go with a light grooming cream that enhances your hair’s volume, not flattens it out. We like Lock Stock & Barrel Pucka Grooming Creme because it gives hair lightweight hold with a natural finish and massive amounts of volume. When you apply product, use your fingers to lift hair away from the scalp, instead of combing hair down. Messier styles allow for space between the strands which helps give the impression of a thicker head of hair so no need for perfection!
